Friday Five: Yoga at Home

So I’ve been taking yoga classes now for about 5 months, if you don’t count the MONTH I missed during Family-Plague season in the fall. (And I’m pretty sure going right back to the classes as soon as I was healthy enough to do so means I don‘t have to count it.)

I love my studio, and I love the classes, but today I’m going to do my own yoga in my own office. Why? Well, for Friday, I’ll give you 5 reasons.

  1. What else am I supposed to do with the beautiful pink bolster, lavender block, and sea-green therapy balls I’ve purchased. (Yes, I also have a lovely purple mat, but I do take that to classes with me!)
  2. Doing yoga at home this morning meant I could lay in bed for 15 more minutes, which is TWO hits of the snooze button, and you know you just can’t underestimate the value of the snooze button.
  3. I have some pretty cool yoga-type music I downloaded for just this purpose, that I’ve only played twice. Three times?
  4. My arms are VERY much still sore from Wednesday morning’s class, and you can just bet that in this morning’s practice, the instructor (that would be me) will not be doing the bridge pose. (Although I’ll do it again next Wednesday, if it’s in the line-up!)
  5. It’s just barely raining outside, the skies are a beautiful gray, I have a space heater, and a little by-myself yoga in my space sounds pretty darned good.

Just so you know, this will not be me:

What are you doing to enjoy your Friday?

  1. Dana Carey says:

I went to the gym so I guess that makes us opposites. Actually, I’ve only ever done yoga at home with DVDs. When I feel like getting out, I hit the gym and pump iron (well, little iron anyway). Happy Friday!

I’ve tried yoga DVDs without success, but that was when I hated yoga (total turn-around this past year). I like doing the yoga in my office, because it’s private and away from things. I think when my confidence is up, I will probably get myself some DVDs. Of course, I can shut the cat out of my office and NOT out of the room where the TV is…and she’s very distracting during a yoga routine! Happy Friday to you, too.

  2. My dentist-husband instructed me that following my tooth extraction today I should rest. I will read my best friend’s manuscript that has been waiting to be read. Almost as good as yoga at home.

  3. Lani Longshore says:

I wish I could do yoga today! I sprained my ankle – again, and badly again – so I’m on rest, too. Still, it wasn’t a wasted day as I finally sent off a sewing project that has been hanging over my head since November. Now I can enjoy the weekend!

    • beckylevine says:

I hate those bad sprains. Good for you for getting that project done. Rest up yourself AND your ankle this weekend. πŸ™‚

  4. If you are in your office and have access to a computer with iTunes there are some great podcast yoga classes! Use them when I travel!! They are not as intimidating as a svd worh all the bendy people soing wveryrhing perfect πŸ™‚ Have a good weekend.

  5. I’m so happy to be taking yoga again! You are so good to do it at home. I’m just not disciplined enough although I do some stretches and balance poses each morning. There’s a ap for yoga poses, btw. I downloaded it, but in typical fashion i have yet to try it!

    • beckylevine says:

Well, this was the first day! The class schedule this year kind of leaves me empty at the end of the week, so I’m committing to either walking with a friend or doing my own yoga. It’s taken me a while to get a list of poses I like and can do myself, but it was pretty great!
