Powerless
A storm that I heard described as the worst October storm in the Bay Area since 1962 left us without electricity (OR INTERNET!) for 3 days. Which, really, felt like more. I am such a wimp.
Anyway, as they say, we at this blog have been experiencing SERIOUS technical difficulties, consisting of working at the local coffeehouse (AKA “Downtown office” for all mountain folk without power), pouring milk down the sink and buying small cartons for cereal, lighting candles, playing board games and reading out loud (Got the chance to introduce son to Firoozeh Dumas’ Funny in Farsi–he loved it!), and various and sundry other activities I’m not going to detail here and that you don’t want met to.
Thankfully, last night and all night, PG&E was working just up the hill from our house to take OUT the broken pole that feeds the six house on our road and replace it with a nice, new WORKING pole. They left at about 4:00 a.m, and–even though we only slept intermittently with the noise and the lights–we are VERY grateful. Especially, yes, for the HOT SHOWERS!
Regular service on this blog will continue next week. Same bat time, same bat channel, folks!

You’re not a wimp! Three days is a long time (I panic after 3 hours without power). Glad the repair is complete and that you’re back in business. 🙂

Thanks, Jana. I was not proud of how grumpy I got. I will just have to be extremely chipper all weekend to make up for it! Glad to see you back at your blog. 🙂

Sorry you had to go through that. We had a hurricane blow through here when the boys were babes and had to go for a week without electric. Ugh. We had an oil lamp and lots of candles, did a lot of barbecuing and played many board games. The cold showers were the pits, though. When a nice neighbor took pity on us and let us borrow his generator, I was ecstatic! You don’t realize how much you miss a hot shower until you have to go without for a while.

That sounds awful. Not to go into any details, but we don’t actually get water pressure without power. So…ick! The generator’s going to be a nice thing!

Yikes!!! Glad you’re okay, Becky, and that the power is back. And you’re no wimp. Though I bet the whole experience has given you new insight into life a century ago!

Thanks, Amy. I do need to think about this as more like the past,don’t I. I think my MC would have had electricity, but now I’m wondering how reliable it was back then. 🙂
